Irpinia and Za’ Monaca wines
When Irpinia makes wine it makes love
Irpinia is a mood, a sensation, a way of seeing life. Sincere, honest, passionate and simple. Irpinia is that scent of wet earth that follows the rain, and the Za’ Monaca collection represents it perfectly. Irpinia is an area that stretches across in a succession of valleys and highlands crossed by streams, less than 50 km from Naples, embraced by the Apennines in the Campania region. A discontinuous mountainous landscape where the force of nature is undeniable, particularly on the slope facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, that best suited to wine-growing, with well-drained soils and significant temperature ranges between day and night.
A land with a vocation for the production of fine wines
The Irpinian vineyards Za’ Monaca collection extend across calcareous-clay soils with volcanic deposits. The soils have benefited over the centuries from the effusive activity of surrounding volcanic areas such as Vulture, Vesuvius and the Caserta mountains. The accumulation of ash and fragments of lava has created tuffaceous deposits that contribute to the wines’ well-defined character. The climatic conditions are certainly another reason for the distinctiveness of these wines. The rows of vines are exposed to the influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the mountains, in a microclimate with exclusive characteristics, an indispensable feature for quality wine growing.
Elegance, finesse and personality
Za’ Monaca Irpinian wines are known for the elegance, finesse and southern Italian, rural and mountain soul. The Irpinian wine tradition has ancient origins dating back to pre-Roman times. Based on an important combination of terroir and country life, in recent years Irpinian wines have succeeded in attracting increasing attention. Today, Campania is one of the up-and-coming wine regions, thanks to a growing awareness of native grape varieties and modern winemaking techniques for both whites and reds.
Sincere, honest and passionate wines
The Za’ Monaca collection comprises Irpinia’s leading grape varieties: Greco di Tufo, Aglianico and Falanghina
The Za’ Monaca range pays tribute to the land and to the Janare, magical and mysterious figures who, according to legend, take flight in the middle of the night to cast spells. According to the ancient Romans, these priestesses performed propitiatory rites for harvests, scattering the seed of abundance when the full moon lit up the night sky. Amidst spells, magic and romantic intrigue, the Janare populate Irpinian tradition and are part of a cultural heritage based on songs and stories. The labels of the Za’ Monaca collection, created by artist Lucilla Tubaro, tell the stories of these mythical female figures linked to the Irpinian territory.
Greco di Tufo Za’ Monaca
One of Campania’s most celebrated wines, Greco di Tufo boasts a distinctive character.
A white wine with an important structure, crisp and smooth, it is an icon of Irpinian oenology. Its name originates from the land where it is cultivated: the municipality of Tufo, characterised by the presence of a volcanic rock known as tuff. Its value has been recognised since ancient times, so much so that the Latin writer Pliny the Elder claimed that “Greco wine was so prized that it was poured only once at banquets.”
The label illustration was created by artist Lucilla Tubaro. The title of the work, ANNAMURA’, is a tribute to the secret Irpinia of the Janare, enchanting fairies who had the power to seduce, to bewitch. Annamurà, in Irpinian dialect means to enamour, to make someone fall in love.
Aglianico Za’ Monaca
Aglianico is a wine of outstanding value and character. Its origins date back to the time of the foundation of the Hellenic colonies on the Tyrrhenian coast.
A particularly structured red wine of great elegance, warm and intense, with pronounced tannins. An important, deep and complex wine that fully expresses its Mediterranean character.

Falanghina
A great wine from the Irpinian territory, characterised by a distinct freshness and persistence.
A seductive white with an outstanding aromatic profile, in which the savoury sensations and acidity build up gradually, achieving a balanced flavour.
